Heavy Industry Example: Teeside (UK)
Quick revise
Iron and steel industries began to develop along the banks of the River Tees in the 19th century due to its access to raw materials and fuel supplies.
As the Tees estuary is so wide, it was ideal for large carriers to transport products to any area in the world. As LEDC countries began to develop their industries with much lower labour costs, the industry in Teeside began to decline.
The coal mines and shipyards in Teeside have all closed now.
